Are you asking yourself questions like…?

“My child is struggling in school and I really want one-on-one tutoring, how can Prepared Children help ?”
How we can help: we offer individualized tutoring to meet the student’s needs specializing in pre-k – 5th grades. Tutoring a child is a team effort- the team consists of the child, his/her teacher, tutor and parents. We will contact and work directly with the child’s teacher to formulate educational strategies to address the child’s particular needs. The materials we use are similar to the curriculum used in the school districts in and around Charlotte. We teach the children with materials that many of them are familiar with in an effort to minimize confusion and expedite the learning process.

“Is my child ready for kindergarten?”
How we can help: we offer the KRT (Kindergarten Readiness Test) - The KRT measures the following six areas to determine if a child is academically prepared to start kindergarten: vocabulary, identifying letters, visual discrimination, phonetic awareness, reading comprehension / interpretation & mathematical knowledge. The results can help the parents determine their child’s readiness level.

“I know my child is academically ready for kindergarten. Is my child developmentally ready?”
How we can help: we offer Gesell Testing- this standardized test helps to determine a child’s chronological age to help parents decide if their child is ready developmentally for formal instruction.

“My child’s birthday is close to the cutoff date, should I start them in kindergarten or send them to TK (transitional kindergarten)?”
How we can help: by administering both the Gesell Test and KRT (Kindergarten Readiness Test) we will give parents information both academically and developmentally to help them make the decision that is right for their family.

“My 4 or 5 year old does not recognize letters, is unable to write their name and cannot count- what should I do?”
How we can help: we offer Kindergarten Readiness Camps in the summer and classes weekly during the school year. This is a developmental based, fun and interactive class using music, singing, art, gross and fine motor skills, games and socializing to teach pre-literacy skills, handwriting skills, and pre-mathematical skills. This class is taught in a classroom setting with a teacher to student ratio of 1:6.

“My child needs help with their handwriting skills and holding their pencil correctly. They don’t qualify for occupational therapy. What should I do?”
How we can help: we use the program “Handwriting Without Tears” in our weekly summer camps and our ongoing classes during the school year. This program is used in local school districts, by occupational therapists and writing specialists. This will be a fun and interactive program using music, tactile and art to develop the child’s fine motor skills, promote tripod grip, and letter writing. We will also focus on proper handwriting skills, capitalization, spacing, punctuation and actual writing.
