Individualized Tutoring | Kindergarten Readiness | Enrichment Classes | Standardized Testing & Assessments
Tutoring is often the best solution to help our children in a specific area. Individualized tutoring is used to remediate a skill a child has not mastered and also as an enrichment tool so a child does not fall behind. As adults, we sometimes forget what a competitive place the classroom can be. Giving a child the advantage of extra tutoring is a great remedy for a child’s performance fears and truly does enable them to advance more quickly without dreading school. Positive learning experiences that occur early and consistently will yield benefits throughout a child’s school career.
Tutoring your child is a team effort. This team members are the child, his or her teacher, the tutor and the parents. At Prepared Children we will contact and work directly with your child's teacher to formulate educational strategies to address your child's particular need. When learning how to read and write, repetition is the key. After a tutoring session your child will receive supplemental work that will be done during the week between sessions. You also will receive clear instructions, a calendar of daily assignments, and all materials that your child will work on at home. This practice and repetition will be key to your child's success.
The materials we use are similar to the curriculum used in the school districts in and around Charlotte. We teach the children with materials that many of them are familiar with in an effort to minimize confusion and expedite the learning process. Our goal is to enable each student to gain a mastery of the information. We will evaluate a child's learning style and form an individualized program for their needs. We will do our best to match your child with a tutor who is currently teaching your child's grade level or has taught it in the past.

Do you remember when you were in kindergarten? It was probably a half day program that was developmental based and included a rest time. The focus was pre-literacy, early mathematical skills, and socialization.
Education has changed since we were young.
Parents used to think, "IT'S JUST KINDERGARTEN!" - Well it is not 'just Kindergarten' by today's standards!
Kindergarten today is a full day academic based program. In many school districts, the required standards to enter Kindergarten and what is actually expected of the children once they enter are very different. The pre-literacy skills that are the fundamentals of reading with comprehension are not being taught like they once were when we were kids. There are many things that impact whether or not a 4-5 year old child is truly prepared to do well in kindergarten. A child's birthdate is always an important consideration. There can be a big difference in the developmental readiness between a child who turns 5 in August and a child who turned 5 the previous September. Although there is nearly a year of difference, both children would be at the age to enroll in kindergarten! There are also other factors to be considered. The amount of academic practice they have been receiving at home or at pre-school, the learning influences of siblings and friends, and the individual nature of the child, all impact whether or not they are ready to take the huge step of starting school.
WHAT IS A KINDERGARTEN READINESS PROGRAM?
This is an alternative for the 4 or 5 year old child who will not be attending a transitional kindergarten program. These enrichment classes are taken in conjunction with a traditional preschool program. Weekly classes focus on the pre-literacy skills, language proficiency, fine and gross motor control, proper handwriting skills, and pre-mathematical skills all rising Kindergarten students need. Classes are taught in a room that will resemble an actual Kindergarten classroom and will be fun and interactive using music, singing, art, and socialization to teach the curriculum. Correct handwriting skills, pre-emergent/ emergent literacy skills are important to learn correctly at a young age so bad habits are not formed.
The small teacher-to-student ratio ensures that each child receives attention for their particular needs.
Many parents are finding that these highly focused weekly sessions, make all the difference in their child’s abilities and confidence. A child might go to a weekly dance class, gymnastic class, or karate class; why not give them an advantage with a weekly kindergarten readiness class?
While many parents opt for a year of 'transitional kindergarten' through their pre-school, others aren't sure it is necessary to hold their child back a year from "real" kindergarten. A Kindergarten Readiness Program is designed specifically to address the literacy needs of pre-kindergarten children who just need some extra focus on the individual skill levels that need improvement in order to be truly 'kindergarten ready.'
After each class you will receive supplemental work that will be done during the week. You will receive clear instructions, a calendar of daily assignments, and all materials that your child can work on at home. This practice and repetition will be the key to your child's success.
At Prepared Children, our goal to make sure that our students enjoy learning and are fully prepared to do well in the year of school that sets the foundation for their entire school career.
How can you know for sure if your child is ready to start kindergarten?
There are several non-threatening kindergarten readiness tests and evaluations available that will determine your child’s individual skill levels, identify areas that need attention as well as emphasize their individual strengths. These assessments can also determine your child’s developmental age versus their chronological age. The results of these tests can give the parents clarification and insight as to whether or not their child is ready for kindergarten. Making the right choice is a key to the development of a child’s self-esteem and attitude toward learning. If you are facing this dilemma, the professional staff at Prepared Children will be glad to help.

Prepared Children offers enrichment classes for kindergarten through fifth grade children who need extra help with their reading, handwriting and math skills. These programs are highly effective for helping any elementary aged child who may be struggling to keep up with the curriculum they face with each new school year. By strengthening their foundation in their particular areas of need and teaching them how to learn, we enable each child to gain the knowledge and the confidence to not only achieve the learning goals of their grade level, but also to excel in the areas where they already have strengths. We feel strongly that in today's competitive academic environment, the earlier your child gets the literacy and handwriting skills they require, the more confidence they will have and the less chance they will develop poor work habits and weak academic skills. When you enroll with us, you will help turn your child's future from a day-to-day challenge into a lifelong success story.
HANDWRITING INSTRUCTION
This course is for all students, including home schooled students and any child who needs assistance mastering handwriting skills.
According to the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum: "Handwriting fluency is fundamental to all areas of elementary education, because children think and write at the same time. When we teach children to write, we also teach them to express themselves. If they struggle with their letters their ability to express themselves will suffer. Spelling and math will also be affected."
The handwriting curriculum is developmentally focused and adapts to a child's changing needs. We will focus on pencil grip, fine and gross motor control, and proper handwriting skills. There will also be an emphasis on capitalization, spacing, and ending punctuation. This class is taught in a room that resembles an actual classroom and will be fun and interactive using music, singing, art, and socializing to teach these very important skills.
SPANISH ENRICHMENT CLASSES
According to the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages: children who learn a foreign language beginning in early childhood demonstrate certain cognitive advantages over children who do not. They also state, studies show that foreign language learning increases critical thinking skills, creativity, and flexibility of minds in young children. Our language enrichment classes are intended to teach conversational Spanish to preschool aged through fifth grade children. This class is taught using music, games, and skits in a fun environment to enhance a child's ability for long term retention. Students will also receive supplemental weekly assignments to keep learning alive at home.
