  • Learn correct pencil grasp & handwriting skills through hands-on activities.
  • Improve social & communication skills with group games and activities.
  • Enhance writing skills through writing exercises designed to improve both gross and fine motor skills.
  • Develop self-confidence and interest in learning with individual attention and a small teacher to student ratio.

KINDERGARTEN READINESS CAMPS

This is a perfect camp for the child who is going to start Kindergarten in the fall.

This camp will be FUN and INTERACTIVE using music, singing, art, gross and fine motor skills, games and socializing.

Each day we will have a different theme to coincide with the letters we will be teaching.

This camp will focus on the pre-literacy skills, language proficiency, fine and gross motor control, proper handwriting skills, and pre-mathematical skills all rising kindergarten students need. This camp will be in a classroom setting with a small child to teacher ratio.

We will focus on:
  • Letter recognition integrated into treasure hunts, games, obstacle courses, and art.
  • Tactile play to create letters, numbers, and shapes.
  • Technology– using a Promethean board to introduce beginning literacy skills.
  • Fine motor activities to promote tripod grip and letter writing.
  • Auditory activities for letter sound recognition.
  • Practice phonetic writing – writing words as they sound to a child.

At the conclusion of this camp you will receive supplemental work that can be done throughout the summer. You will receive clear instructions, a calendar of weekly assignments and materials. This practice will be key to your child’s success.

Daily Camp Themes

  • Day 1: Fantastic Leaping Frogs
The focus will be on vertical & horizontal stroke letters and numbers. We will leap frog around the room through an obstacle course for letter recognition, use our fine motor skills during frog races and make some art while practicing writing these letters and learning their sounds.

  • Day 2: Super Sports Day
The focus will be on center start letters. This will be the day for games, relay races, and more. Have you ever played bingo by recognizing the letter sounds? Picked up different letters using chopsticks? Gone through an obstacle course stopping to write letters or play freeze letter? Your child will love the combination of learning and play.
  • Day 3: Magnificent Magic
The focus will be on writing the magic “C” letters. Now you see it now you don’t. Magic wands and magical bunnies will help us correctly write our letters and numbers on this day. Our auditory skills will have to be to top notch as we try to find the invisible letters. We will write letters and have them disappear to see if any of our magician friends can use their magic wands to find them.
  • Day 4: Beautiful Beach Day
The focus will be on letters and numbers with curves and diagonal lines. No need for suntan lotion or a sunny day- we will be playing with sand inside today. We will go on a treasure hunt to find letters and begin reviewing sight words. Use tweezers in the sand to match the correct letter with its sound. Read books about the beach on the promethean board and do art projects to help us remember how to write all of our letters and numbers.

HANDWRITING CAMPS

• For rising first graders   • For rising second graders   • For rising third graders

Our Handwriting Camps are 4 days long for 3 hours each day. This is a perfect camp for the child who needs additional instruction or who is looking to improve their handwriting skills during the summer. Each camp will focus on your child's previous handwriting skill curriculum and introduce the curriculum for the next school year.

"Handwriting fluency is fundamental to all areas of elementary education, because children think and write at the same time. When we teach children to write, we also teach them to express themselves. If they struggle with their letters their ability to express themselves will suffer. Spelling and math will also be affected."

This will be a fun and interactive camp using music, games, art, fine/gross motor skills. We will concentrate on proper handwriting skills, capitalization, spacing, punctuation and actual writing. Your child will practice putting their thoughts down on paper and adding details to their personal writing. This camp will be in a classroom setting with a maximum of 8 students.

Your child will be invited to an Assessment Day before camp begins so we can evaluate their handwriting skills. An individualized program will be developed to help them focus on skills they need to master during the camp.
